Public Information Coordinator
The ARRL Public Information Coordinator (PIC) is a section-level official appointed by and reports to the Section Manager (SM) as the section's expert on public information and public relations matters. The PIC is responsible for organizing, training, guiding and coordinating the activities of the Public Information Officers (PIOs) within the section.  The overall goal of the PIC is to promote interest in Amateur Radio to the non-ham population within their section.
A New York City native prior to moving to Springfield. Illinois in 1999, Illinois Section's Public Information Coordinator Vicky Whitaker's media career spans over 60 years including 14 years as a daily business and investigative reporter and managing editor of a newspaper chain before becoming chief spokesperson for nearly 15 years for State University of New York at Stony Brook, a campus of 10,000 employees and 30,000 students,  A graduate of Hofstra, she is a past president of the Press Club of Long Island and a past Regional Director  of  the Society of Professional Journalists, serving on its national board for more than10 years, She currently  serves  SPJ as a  judge for its major national print and electronic competitions.  A  past  president of the 700-member Sangamon County Historical Society, she  has held  key positions on numerous Springfield, Illinois arts, civic and community organizations. She is a  member of the Sangamon Valley Radio Club.
